When it comes to supercars, power and speed often steal the spotlight. But for true enthusiasts, there’s something even more intoxicating—the sound of a high-revving engine screaming towards redline. Three cars stand out as some of the highest-revving and some would say best sounding
machines ever built: the Ferrari 812 Superfast, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and Lexus LFA.

Ferrari’s naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 in the 812 Superfast is an absolute masterpiece, revving all the way to 9,500 RPM in its most extreme form (812 Competizione). Producing 789 hp, this engine is Ferrari’s most powerful V12 in a road car.
The sound is a mix of high-pitched wails and deep roars that imitate the classic F1 engines. The 812 isn’t just about noise, though as it delivers razor-sharp throttle response and an exhilarating top-end rush that modern turbocharged engines can’t replicate. With Ferrari slowly transitioning to hybrid powertrains, the 812 represents one of the last pure V12 experiences.

The high-pitched shriek at redline, combined with aggressive pops and crackles on downshifts, makes this car one of the best-sounding six-cylinders ever. Combine the sound with Porsche’s brilliant engineering, and you get a track weapon that feels at home in any road setting.
Lexus LFA

No conversation about high-revving, beautiful-sounding engines is complete without mentioning the Lexus LFA. Powered by a 4.8-liter V10, the LFA revs to an astonishing 9,500 RPM, and it gets there so quickly that Lexus had to use a digital tachometer because analog ones couldn’t keep up.
The sound is often compared to an F1 car. Lexus fine-tuned the intake and exhaust harmonics to create one of the best-sounding road cars ever made. The LFA was an engineering marvel and became a legend quickly, with prices skyrocketing on the collector’s market.
