The World of Super SUVs

The world of supercars isn’t limited to sleek coupes anymore. High-performance SUVs have entered the car world with a blend of speed, luxury, and everyday usability in ways we’ve never seen before. Leading this elite class are three standouts: the Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga, and Aston Martin DBX.

Lamborghini Urus

Ray, J. (2024, March 4). 2024 lamborghini Urus Performante track test: Faster Lap Times and plenty of room for groceries. MotorWeek. https://motorweek.org/road-tests/2024-lamborghini-urus-performante/

The Urus is everything you’d expect from a Lamborghini—loud, fast, and aggressive—but in SUV form. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 pumps out 657 horsepower, launching it from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds. That makes it one of the quickest SUVs on the market, with a top speed of roughly 190 mph. The urus is all sharp lines and bold angles. Inside, the cabin gives fighter-jet vibes, with multiple digital displays, a drive mode selector, and bolstered seats that hug you in place. It’s a combination of performance with space to fit the family.

Bentley Bentayga

Meacham, B. (n.d.). 2020 Bentley Bentayga Speed Review. Exotic Car Trader. https://www.exoticcartrader.com/blog/bentley-bentayga-speed-2020-review

The Bentley Bentayga is a leader in luxury with a surprising performance edge. Whether you choose the V8 or the W12 Speed model, you’re getting power wrapped in British elegance. The Speed trim produces 626 horsepower and offers a silky-smooth ride even at 187 mph. Inside the Bentayga, it has hand-stitched leather, real wood veneers, and nearly endless customization options. The Bentayga is perfect for those who want supercar power but in an SUV dedicated to luxury.

Aston Martin DBX

Vega, G. (2023, August 29). 2023 Aston Martin dbx 707 review: An SUV with Supercar moves. duPont REGISTRY News. https://news.dupontregistry.com/aston-martin/2023-aston-martin-dbx-707/

The DBX marks Aston Martin’s first SUV, and it’s a strong debut. Under the hood is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, borrowed from Mercedes-AMG, that produces up to 697 horsepower in the DBX707 variant. It accelerates from 0 to 60 in just 3.1 seconds, putting it easily in supercar territory. True to the Aston Martin brand, the DBX blends athleticism with elegance. Its boasts sleek lines, a distinctive grille, and an upscale interior to create a unique presence on the road. The handling is sharp, the ride is smooth, and the attention to detail is everything you’d expect from a brand with racing in its DNA.

The Best of British Speed: McLaren

McLaren has built a reputation around speed, innovation, and sharp driving dynamics, but not every car in their lineup has the same effect. Among all the models they’ve produced, three stand out as the true stars of the modern McLaren era: the 765LT, the 720S, and the 600LT.

1. McLaren 765LT

Yeung, J. (2021, March 8). Hennessey gives the new McLaren 765LT a 1,000-horsepower upgrade. Hypebeast. https://hypebeast.com/2021/3/hennessey-mclaren-765lt-1000-horsepower-upgrade-package

The 765LT is a car that demands your respect. Based on the already insane 720S, the 765LT pushes things even further with 755 horsepower, a lightweight frame, and ridiculous aerodynamics that give it a fighter jet appearance. It is brutally fast, reaching 0–60 in under 3 seconds. The steering is also very much alive with incredible precision. The brakes are taken from the McLaren Senna, and the entire car feels like it was built to be on a track. The McLaren 765LT is arguably the most exhilarating modern McLaren experience you can get.

2. McLaren 720S

Krok, A. (2021, August 13). 2021 McLaren 720S review: A sublime supercar. CNET. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/reviews/2021-mclaren-720s-review/

The 720S might just be the perfect middle ground between performance and usability. With 710 horsepower and a carbon monocoque chassis, it’s lightning quick yet surprisingly comfortable on the street. The suspension is magic, absorbing bumps without sacrificing handling, and the cabin is more refined than you’d expect from a car this fast. It’s sleek, balanced, and incredibly capable whether you’re driving in the canyons or showing up to a night out. The 720S proves that you can have extreme performance without giving up everyday usability.

3. McLaren 600LT

For pure driving joy, the 600LT is hard to beat. It’s the lightest and most agile of the three, with 592 horsepower and a chassis that feels incredibly precise. Based on the 570S, the 600LT dials everything up with stiffer suspension, quicker throttle response, and that signature top mounted exhaust that sounds unreal. The 600LT is more analog than the 720S and 765LT which is what makes it so engaging. Every input matters, and it’s a car that makes you feel as if you are one with the machine.

Supercar Classics

When it comes to classic supercars, you can't forget to mention the Ferrari F40, the Ford GT, and the McLaren F1. Although made in different decades, each of these machines redefined what a supercar should be through performance, engineering, and timeless design.

Ferrari F40

Ruch, P. (2025, January 18). Ferrari F40 – #88374: Radicalmag classics. radicalmag. https://radical-mag.com/en/2025/01/18/ferrari-f40-88374-2/

The Ferrari F40 wasn’t just a car, it was a statement. It was created to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary and was the final car approved by Enzo Ferrari himself. With a twin-turbocharged V8 pushing 471 horsepower, the F40 was brutally fast for its time and delivered raw passion. There was no traction control, no ABS, or even power steering. The F40 was light, loud, and timeless. From the massive rear wing to its stripped-out interior, the F40 was purpose-built for speed and nothing else.

Ford GT

Ross, R. (2022, January 10). Car of the week: A 2005 Ford GT, the first modern American Supercar, is heading to auction. Robb Report. https://robbreport.com/motors/cars/gooding-and-company-2005-ford-gt-online-auction-1234656758/

The mid-2000s Ford GT was a full-throttle tribute to the GT40 that humbled Ferrari at Le Mans in the 1960s. With a supercharged 5.4L V8 delivering 550 hp, the GT offered brute strength with a touch of refinement. It looked vintage, but it drove like a modern supercar with a mid-engine layout, manual transmission, and a finely tuned chassis. The GT was a huge statement for American performance and proved that American engineering could still hang with the best of Europe.

McLaren F1

McLaren F1 specification. SBR Engineering. (2024b, November 19). https://sbraceengineering.co.uk/mclaren-specialists/mclaren-models-by-year/mclaren-f1-specifications/

The McLaren F1 is in a league of its own. Designed by Gordon Murray, it was built with no compromises but rather a mission to create the greatest driver’s car ever. Powered by a naturally aspirated BMW V12, the F1 produced 618 hp and reached a record-setting 240+ mph. It wasn’t just about speed though. The F1 featured a center-seat driving position, a gold-lined engine bay, and obsessive attention to weight and balance. It remains the holy grail of analog performance and a symbol of engineering perfection.
